Creation of my mind

I often get a feeling if what we see, hear and feel, realy exists. It would be an enormous waste of resources and energy to create such a large universe when it can all be perceived by just creating them in the brain. Whatever maybe, a dot on the paper to a large vision expanding all the way to horizon by standing from a cliff, can simply be imagined or seen by just a set of eyes. The sum total of the smell of the entire universe at any point can be smelt by the nose. Take the same trend the five senses are simple enough to perceive everything that can be and will be. So is all that we perceive just a creation (like a movie) of the brain? Even a 30km marathon can be simulated by creating the signals from each part of the body including the pain, the required images and the sounds inside the brain. So, is life itself a virtual reality. Is this what they called "Maya". So when I see you, do you really exist (or) are you a creation of my brain ? When I speak to you, am I hearing you or am I hearing the signals created by my brain ? Will I every know? Will I ever transend my senses and see what really is? Can I see the real truth by transcending my senses? Now, isn't it a worthwhile quest? Wouldn't it be fascinating to know it? Can I know this through meditation, can I know it through looking inside myself and going all the way to the creation points in my brain? Will I ever know ? Where do I begin ????
